bin Laden removal; a stronger, more sophisticated al-Queda?

3 Oct

Throughout history, more often than not, those who start a significant undertaking are seldom the best choice to manage said efforts for the long-term.

Osama bin Laden was a charismatic, and energetic person, a person with strong oratory skill and the ability to energize his followers, much like Barak Obama of the United States. But, again much like Obama, bin Laden was neither an effective communicator, nor a good day-to-day manager. Bin Laden lacked sophistication in management; he used charm and brute force to carry out missions he initiated. His death caused al-Queda to turn a new leaf, it made it more sophisticated, and effective than it was when bin Laden was alive and at the helm!

Since bin Laden’s death, al-Queda developed a much more effective public relations mechanism, it learned much from history, particularly for the likes of Germany’s Goebbles. A set of recent examples has to do with the deadly fires in Western USA. Al Queda did not take credit for those fires, but in their English language publication it gave instructions for setting such fires, planting seeds in the minds of those who read said publications, and spread by the media, causing fear in the minds of the American public.

The situation that started recently in Libya, and Egypt and spread throughout the Islamic World due to “the Muhammad movie,” was not in reality a reaction to the movie al all, it was planned. Again, in its much more subtle and sophisticated approach, al Queda did not claim responsibility, but rather let Western intelligence agencies to suggest that it was an al Queda operation.

While bin Laden was alive al Queda was a crude operation that dealt with issues using brute force. Under Ayman al-Zawahri, a much better educated and sophisticated man than was bin Laden, al Queda is now truly a twenty-first century operation that could cause problems to the n0n-Islamic world for many years to come.
