Because Obama is only partially African-American, does his Presidency allow for a full blooded African-Ameican, in the future, to become the [real] first African-American US President?

7 Jan

Shouldn’t the country stop referring to Barak Obama as the first African-American President since Obama is only half African-American, or what is known as Mulatto? Should the young ambitious African-American who dreams about the Presidency be deprived of the dream of being the first African-American in that role?

President-elect Obama is clearly the first “non-Caucasian,” not an “African-American” President of the United States.

A while back whites considered anyone who looked black to be a negro. When this term changed to colored, and to the now politically correct term, african-american, the meaning never changed. President Obama is a FULL african-american because of the one drop rule; if you have a drop of black in you, to society you are treated as a black person.

You are right to a point, or until the first full blooded African-American is elected President…

I agree with R.O. I consider him to be the first African American president. Since race is primarily defined by the culture, if you look black and mixed with that race (which Obama is), you are considered African American. As far as finding a “full blooded” African American, that is almost impossible because a lot of people considered African American are mixed with some other race (whether it be 50% to 6%). It seems as if society was okay with using the “one drop rule” or skin color to define African Americans UNTIL Obama became President. (Great timing huh?)

You’re kidding right? Obama is black enought… you think we’ve forgotten the one drop of black blood makes you black rule..now you looking for 100%…like who do you know that’s 100% anything. I’m not…are you. Plus, black is a state of mind as much as any color or degree.
